What Scriptures are You Afraid of?
I spent 2 1/2 days preparing for Holy Hot Sauce this week. By far, this was the most prep time I’ve spent for a single message at Life Pointe. The reason is that some of the Scriptures relating to Spiritual Gifts are problematic for the church. I want to present these challenging Scriptures as effectively as I can.
So, here are a couple questions for you:
- What Scriptures give you a hard time?
- What is a recent "aha" moment you’ve had with Scripture where something you did not understand kind of came into focus?

Travis,
I can’t remember who once said this, but it is SO true..
It’s the not the Scriptures that I don’t understand that give me trouble…it’s the ONES that I DO understand that give me trouble…

I agree, sometimes the scriptures that are straight forrward are the ones that get me the most.
“be imitators of me as I am of him, then later he says, I am the worst of sinners”?????? DUDE!!!! I think thats right?

No doubt. Like…
Luke 9:23-24
“23 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross daily, and follow me. 24 If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life.”

I struggle with every scripture that talks to something I’m doing against God’s will at that particular time! Not because I think the scripture is wrong – because I KNOW I am!!
Recently a young guy in our church talked about how when Samuel, the young lad given to God by his mother, said ‘Speak Lord, your servant hears you’ it ultimately led to the choosing of David as King of Israel and that was the lineage that directly led to Jesus being born on earth. Amazing that the obedience of a child should have such repercussions!
