“You All Are Everywhere”

One of our goals is to disallow Jesus from being ignored in Homestead.  I don’t want anyone to be able to say, “I never knew…” or “I had never heard…”

On Sunday, one of the connection cards from a first time guest circled that they had heard about us on our billboard, a handbill, the internet, and a street banner.  Then, in the blank they wrote, “You all are everywhere. :)”  That’s awesome!

Without a doubt, the biggest reason people come is that they were invited by someone.  But, we still try to cast the net as wide as possible so that really awesome people like these guys who may not be connected relationally to people in our church can see us everywhere!

The message of Jesus is neither boring, unchallenging, irrelevant, or lame.  So, why should it be easily ignored?

Out in the public arena (supermarket etc.) when I have talked to people about church and of course they ask what church do you go to…I say the church at the movie theatre, most know our name.

Last night my husband was telling me that he told a friend that he was going back to church and the person asked what church and he said the one at the movie theatre…His friend said OH LIFE-POINTE? My husband laughed and invited him to come. See Pastor Travis you and ( our Life-Pointe family) have effected an Ex-Catholic (hard-hearted)to witness…Come taste and see The Lord is good and HE shows up at Life-Pointe on Sundays.

I think that if you did a random survey here in the Homestead area more people would be able to identify ‘Life Pointe Church’ with the movie theatre than ‘Flagship Cinemas’. They know the name of our church that meets there, but they may not know the actual name of the movie theatre itself. That says something right there. ‘We all are everywhere !’

You know that we’re making an impact when the movie theatre is referred to as ‘Life Pointe Cineplex’.

    Hey Travis
I love Life Pointe and am loving the series but I, will say that I am a bit disappointed that nothing has been done for black history month. It would have been a nice touch if we had at least recognized a prominent African american in history or sang a negro spiritual to mark the occassion.

Write me, call me, or meet with me. I’m incredibly accessible. If you’re a part of the church, you know that openness is a part of our culture. So, there’s no need for anonymity.

In fact, Matthew 18 mandates that kind of one on one directness before taking an issue to others, much less to a broader audience of around 700 unique individuals per day here on my blog. Read the passage, consider it, and make that adjustment. Its one of the most life honoring passages Jesus gives us. I do my best to live by it. Its challenging because you have to think through what you’re saying and look someone in the eye. But, on the really positive side, I’ve found that it nurtures long term, healthy relationships that are not undermined by well intentioned but misplaced words. My closest friends are people who have stepped up and spoken directly to me. At times, they’ve brought significant correction and healing to my life and have become long term, highly trusted friends…because I knew I could count on their honesty and raw transparency.

Still, with that said, we have about 37 different nationalities and many more sub-cultures on any given Sunday. A couple weeks ago, we had a Wiccan, a Benedictine Monk, a head banger, and a retiree sitting on the same row…talk about a stew of sub-cultures! I think its a testament to the transcendent message of Jesus Christ…a message that has power to bridge any gap and mend the hearts of people together in a way totally uncommon to the world in which we live. We’ve intentionally chosen to create our own culture within the culture. What does that look like? I don’t know. It’s in formation. But, what I see is incredibly beautiful.

What I do know is that we have become a beautifully diverse family that loves one another authentically and without regard for color, language, background, or religious perspective.

Again, with that said, I’m not opposed to focusing on a culture…like we did for our Christmas offering when we spent the month highlighting Children’s Cup and the need in Swaziland. Our people responded by giving $25,000, $15,000 of which goes to the orphans in Swaziland. Of course, we also focused on one of the most affluent largely Latino communities in America in that offering as well when we gave to a church plant in Weston, FL.

Honestly, I don’t see how a song during a truly significant, special month is more honoring than a lifestyle and a ministry focus of love for all people. If Life Pointe is anything, its a doors-thrown-wide-open-fellowship of diverse people that looks beyond skin color to love and live together in a beautiful community of people who have been created in the image of God and who love Him and who love people with reckless abandon.

I’ve heard it said that Sundays are the most segregated day of the week in America. It isn’t at Life Pointe and that’s a beautiful thing.
