We met with the guys at Parks and Rec in Homestead…great meeting. Here’s the deal:
- we got a new venue: Harris Field. Its the best location we could ask for…beats the heck out of the Sports Complex, which was a good location. Harris Field is dead center in the middle of town. Rent is half the price.
- the helicopter still got the axe: even though the official landing site for fire rescue is Harris Field and our pilot has done virtually the same thing with the city of Miami Shores and we have all of our insurance certificates and we cleared our flight path with Homestead Air Reserve Base, we can’t do it…at least not this year. It was a safety issue. Adding the kids to the equation was too much for the city with only 7 weeks notice. Next year, with more time and prep we might be able to pull it off. We’ll see.
- the coolest thing…better than the helicopter: the city just quit doing their Moonlight Easter Egg Hunt because it was too big. They’re planning for a max of 600 kids this year as opposed to the 2,000 last year. They asked if we wanted to do the Moonlight Egg Hunt instead. Answer? Yes! Absolutely. We’re there.
- we forged some new ground with the city: I left the meeting with a couple new friends…community partners. They was to see a better city, just like us. I think we’ll be working with these guys a lot. I expect to see some great stuff coming out of that relationship.
Anyway, the new event, the Moonlight Easter Egg Hunt is Friday night, March 21st from 6-10 PM. We’ll have live music, tons of prizes to give away (iPods, a Wii, xBox 360s, a couple bikes, gift cards, and Saturn Project CDs). This will, without a doubt, be our biggest community event so far. But, with only 4 weeks to pull everything together, we’ve got our work cut out for us.
I hope you’re on board to serve. If not, we’re in deep! ![]()

Wow. I am kind of glad your helicopter thing got cancelled. The only reason I say that is I remember a WKRP episode where they decided to drop live Turkeys for thanksgiving. In that episode, turkeys apparently were dropping to earth at catastrophic speeds since they couldnt fly. You get the picture.
Seriously, that is so awesome that the city basically handed you the keys to a pretty amazing event! Yeah God and yeah for you!
Everybody and their mother has brought up the whole Turkey incident on WKRP…interesting. We were thinking about parachuting an Easter Bunny out. But, I had visions of the parachute not working and the bunny plummeting to earth in front of a couple thousand kids. That would not be well received.
I’m excited about the event…it’s going to be great I think. And, we’ll get to volunteer with the city the next day in their event. We have a crazy 4 weeks ahead…really excited about it.
If anyone has any ideas for our Moonlight Easter Egg Hunt postcard, let me know. We have to design it between now and Monday.
I’m on board to serve on that Friday night before Easter. Let’s go everyone else on Hospitality. Join me. This will be our biggest event ever ! We all are everywhere !
Ever thought about turning the moon into an easter egg hunt tieing the moonlight into theaster egg thing?
OK. Let me work edit that comment since it came out of my head faster than my fingers could navigate…
Ever thought about turning the moon into an easter egg. That ties the easter egg hunt together with the moon and darkness.
I need an admin assistant to moderate my own comments.
I’m there if u need me…
We pray HE answers, sometimes bigger than we can imagine. I ‘m with y’all. Chris is right we ARE GOING TO NEED EVERYONE!!!
First thought instead of the parachute jump was a “Bunny (bungy) jump” who knows could be fun watching the mayhem that would ensue. Tall crane, and like Bart Simpson in the Macy’s parade the bunny comes flying in… never mind.
I’m going to encourage our Life Group for 100% participation.
AWSOME DEAL, WE’RE IN!

bro. i love the idea. and thanks for the comment on my blog. ..we cant have church for Easter because they dont work the city employees on holidays, and we meet at the city community center. so on sat the 22nd were partnering with the city of HB to put on the Huntington Beach Easter Hunt. we’ll setup, breakdown, run all the little kids booths, were the bunny suit for all the kids to hug, and just serve our community. it’s our second year doing it. last year they were really sceptical to use us because we are a church and thought we were just selfishly trying to infiltraite…. this year they called and asked us to come and thanked us again for last years help… my point is….”if you win them to yourself, you can win them to your God”. …. lived by it for years
