Outed by Ed Stetzer
Ed Stetzer has proclaimed on his blog that I’m Pentecostal. I guess you can say he “outed me.” I actually prefer the term “Continuationist“ since I have never had a Pentecostal experience like tongues of fire sitting on my head. I’ve also never spoken in Spanish as the Holy Spirit gave the utterance. But, I do embrace the Charismata and believe that the Holy Spirit continues to function in the lives of believers today like He did after the ascension of Christ. To be honest, I’ve never met a person that has had a Pentecostal experience. Here are some things I don’t believe in as a continuationist:
- miracle vials of water bottled somewhere in Ohio and sold on TBN like this fruitcake.
- green prosperity handkerchiefs given to you free by this fruitcake (for a “seed offering” of course).
- handling snakes (I was bitten by an alligator when I was 16 though)
- bee hive hairdoos and no make-up (I’ve never understood why the holiness women have to be ugly).
- running the aisles (we meet in a move theater so technically it is impossible…would love to see it though).
Anyway, I’m looking forward to hearing Ed and being at the conference…awesome guy speaking to a really decent group of people.

Dude with that said now, you have to rock the feathered hair look, with the invisible hairspray holding it up. YOu gotta wear slippery church shoes with thick white sweat socks.

What about the plaid pants (with the white belt optional) to go with the shoes and the socks?

Trav, I would love to see some “live blogging” for Engage. I’ve read a little on acts…so far three thoughts:
1. “They” (meaning the machine) have to realize that missional leaders do not care about recognition. We care about effectiveness.
2. What does McGuire mean by “as long as they preach the truth and remain pentecostal”? How is “remain pentecostal” being defined? Is it the culturally (COG) conditioned version of pentecost that has been handed down for the past 100 years? Or, is it a true sense of Spirit enablement that we see in the book of Acts?
3. If you’re up for some bets, I set the “over/under” on a couple of things:
- References to “you can wear jeans if you want to” – 4
- Something to the likeness of “we need to reach these young people” – 12
- Someone will say “this Generation X” or “this extreme generation” – 1

hmmm……
I hate labels such as this.
If you need something to call me to make yourself feel better…..Christian, disciple, or follower of Jesus fit the bill…..
My family always ask me the infamous question “Do you go to a Church of God”…..I always answer, “yes, the church belongs to God”….. and thinking….not some old guys in Cleveland….

I am all for declaring what you believe in, but referring to others in a spiteful way seems to lack the love we should all be walking in. Nothing wrong with what you think about people (I agree in fact) but love always wins, that will never change. Perhaps a call for prayer for these “fruitcakes” would be more appropriate.

Travis,
I guess that I will be one of the first to welcome you to the “pentecostal” side!!!!!! Who knew!

Sam, are you kidding? “Fruitcake” is a very kind way of describing these sheisters. They should be totally dismissed and dissociated.

Trav,
I am so glad to see you definitively declaring your “pentecostal distinctive” while simultaneously emerging…while simultaneously being next generation, while simultaneously holding on to the 30 million sermons preached since 1970 heritage…bravo…you are my hero (tear…sniff…sniff)
