Care to Enjoy Another Easter Egg Hunt Story?

Gary speaks.  Listen.  And, in doing so, know that our egg hunt at between 7-9,000 people was not the largest.  Nor, was it the most chaotic…even though a guy who looked like he just escaped from San Quentin told me he was going to rip my #$%^ing lungs out of my chest during the third egg hunt.  There was no police detective waiting for me at the office this morning either.  I think you’ll enjoy Gary’s unfolding story and feel warm and cuddly inside over how ours went.

Think we’re doing another egg hunt next year?  Yep.  The MEGA PRIZE?  I think we’ll be giving away a new car.  I’m not sure which dealership wants to throw their hat in with us and be our major sponsor but, one will.  We’re going to rock the Sports Complex on 7 fields, dozens of bounce houses, piles of food, and a massive concert.   Can’t wait.

The debrief on the Egg Hunt 2008 is slated for Sunday, April 6th…lunch provided. We have a White Board to offload our thoughts from 08. And, a White Board for 09. Maybe someone will suggest that we move from the Sports Complex to Homestead/Miami Speedway. Someone would have to get Curtis Gray to give us a thumbs up. But, that would be cool as heck!

I hear from a friend of mine a little while ago and she said that she will never take her children to another egg hunt ever again. Although she said it was great that we open our doors for everyone to enjoy an egg hunt that we should have put limitations on the range of ages allowed and we should have had a lot more security. She said that after waiting to go in she took the kids and left about 15 minutes after going in.

I’m sad that we had issues on two of our four fields. I wish we wouldn’t have. Check the South Dade News Leader before the event. You’ll see we were expecting 2,000 people. That was based on what the city had the previous year. We planned for 4,000-4,500. Instead, we had around 9,000. Considering that, I think it went well…no one was permanently lost.

We’ll have it resolved for next year. We start the planning for ‘09 Sunday, April 6th. It will be excellent. Promise you.

While there were certainly legitimate complaints about our event there were also a lot of non-legitimate complaints as well. I know because I heard some of them. Some people were expecting a whole lot more for their entrance fee - which was $0.00. Some people forgot the entire reason for the season of Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Some people made it a point to go out of their way to threaten us, call us names, and cuss us out. I think that we handled ourselves quite well considering the circumstances.

I wonder how the City Of Homestead’s event went the next day with a $5.00 entrance fee per child and torrential downpours ?

A year’s worth of planning will go a long way to make next year’s event even bigger, better, safer, funner, and more efficient.

My friend suggested that we only take in as many people as we prepared for, OR only accept the people who pre-registered…

I suggest we drop egg-laying chickens from a helicopter above the crowd.

If I hear another WKRP comment, I think I’m going to go crazy…or have I already been there?
