2 Timothy 2:1-2 “You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.”
The church needs a farm system for reproduction.
AT SEACOAST CHURCH:
- in 2001, they planted their first church through an arm of their church, ARC. They’re planting 30 churches this year. They have the money to do it. The challenges is always to build a farm team.
- In 2001, they had about 3,500 people (now 10,000 without the big building) and were denied a building permit.
- Now they have 13 campuses.
- Every week, they now have 20 bands.
- Our future lies in developing leaders.
- You’ve got to find and develop leaders.
- Inspiration from the Apostle Paul: always looking down the bench for the next guy. (2 Timothy 2:1-2)
HOW DO YOU BUILD A REPRODUCING FARM TEAM
- Warren Bennis: What are the common denomoinators of great teams?
- ALL YOUNG - were too young to know that what they were being asked to do is impossible
- A GREAT DREAM - “We’re on a mission from God.”
- THS: tiny heart syndrome (not a big enough dream)
- GET THE RIGHT GUYS ON THE TEAM
- “Great vision without great people is irrelevant” Jim Collins
We’re looking for Tom Sawyer Leaders:
- VISIONARY LEADERS (who can see fences that need to be painted and get others on board).
- RESOURCEFUL LEADERS (realize money isn’t the answer)
- INSPIRATIONAL LEADERS (they have to be good communicators…not gifted communicators)
- DELEGATING LEADERS (they get a kick out of seeing other people get involved).
Build a ministry pipeline
- “Winners don’t find successors, they create them.” - Noel Tichy
- 2 Kings 4:2-4 Elisha and the widow
- The solution to your problem is in your house.
- We are usually to quick to say there is nothing in the house.
- You need to build the right system that will build your bench.
- We need to have a system ready so God can provide a solution.
How do you develop a ministry pipeline?
- Define the pipeline.
- 6 LEVELS OF LEADERSHIP: Lead yourself-> leading others ->leading leaders->leading departments->leading campuses-leading churches
- Identify what these people need to know (values, theology, strategies).
- If you aren’t preparing people for the next level, you will create chaos in your church.
How do you develop the process?
- program based (what churches usually do…leadership class, etc…) or people based.
- we need a new leadership paradigm that is not limited by time or space.
- People based model resulted with a uniform quality experience.
- All information necessary for moving up leadership levels and put them online.
- They took the formation and made that a mentoring process.
