Where is God during This Tragedy?!
Watching the terrible news about the earthquake that hammered the people of Port au Prince and other areas of Haiti, one must wonder, “Where is God in all of this?” We try to make sense of bad things happening, suffering, human pain. The truth is that tragedy simply doesn’t make sense. It’s painful and real. And, while I do not have an answer to the question of whether or not it makes sense, I do have an answer to where God is in this.
- God is in the rubble with the Haitian boy trapped by debris.
- God is in the ghetto where water is becoming more scarce by the moment.
- God’s name is at the lips of the mother desperate for the safety of her children.
- God is in the countryside with people far from the view of international press…away from rapid assistance.
- God is in the action that gives a cup of cold water to the thirsty and suffering.
- God is in the ditch with the man bloodied by robbers where the Samaritan, the outcast half breed cared enough to spend himself to alleviate pain and share grace.
From our comfortable chairs, we ask, “Where is God in this tragedy?” I’ll tell you….He’s caring for His children who are in need. And, He’s trying to use us to demonstrate His care.
Help show where God is in this tragedy now by giving to groups like Operation Compassion or Samaritan’s Purse. Or, if you’re in Homestead, bring bottled water, bags of beans and rice, basic medical supplies, and clothing to either Life Pointe Church campus on Sunday, January 17th, 2010. We’re participating with Miami Vineyard and Community Christian Church in Miami with a shipment of goods to reputable Christian relief organizations already on the ground.
Every ending is a new beginning
Whether you’re throwing a “Thank God it’s over Party” or are sad the year is ending, we are definitely concluding the year…and depending on who you’re talking to, the decade as well. Reflect. Thank God for His provision. Be audacious in 2010. Align your actions to support the audacity of your goal. And, love God, family, and fellow man with a recklessness abandon.
Some people will pull back and play it safe in 2010. Not me. Not you. Now is the time to press in. While people are retreating, there is a vacuum on the field. Occupy the field and press in. God does not reward inaction. Don’t wait (stagnate) for Him to tell you what to do. Simply, do what you know to be good and right. Go until He says no. Then, bless Him for the opportunity to change lives and shape the future.
