Team Work Makes the Dream Work!

I love being a part of a team, a crew. Something deep down inside of me (someone who doesn’t mind going it alone) craves the shared sweat, collaboration, victory, and even loss when I’m a part of a good team.

I’m a part of a motley crew. It looks like we’ve been gathered from all over the earth and from all the corners of our communities. That must have been what the New Testament Church looked like. Afterall, on the Day of Pentecost when the Church of Jesus was born, the Gospel was communicated or heard in every language by peoples from all nations just like Christ said we would in Matthew 28:19-20.

I’m thankful for who we are. But, I’m thankful for where we’re going. We’re developing into a stronger, fitter, more collaborative, more involved, more God-dependent team. I like what Dave Ferguson, lead pastor of Community Christian Church said about the church as a team:

“The dream of God is not for the church to be led by one person, but that it would be a playing field for great teams led by great coaches. And when the game is on the line and the final point needs to be scored, the ball will be in the hands of volunteer leaders, and those leaders need to be coached to make the winning shot.”

My prayer to see our church continue advancing as a better team is two-fold:

1. That players, regardless of their gifting would want to have a role in the game.

2. That I will be a good coach to our coaches so that they can effectively lead our players to becoming a great team. Afterall, as Dave said, “the game is on the line.”
